Sou Maria, designer de estampas de superfície, moro em Holyoke, Massachusetts, e crio estampas desenhadas à mão para pessoas que apreciam coisas belas e têm um gosto refinado para saber o que querem.
Meu processo criativo geralmente começa com minhas caminhadas na natureza. Coleto flores e plantas, as prenso, as desenho com tinta e aquarela e, em seguida, as importo para o Adobe Illustrator para que se tornem a base dos meus padrões repetitivos. Cada desenho começa com algo real — uma pétala, um caule, uma folha estudada de perto — e é por isso que meu trabalho tem a qualidade que tem. É detalhado, realista e um pouco nostálgico, como algo que você poderia encontrar impresso dentro de um livro antigo ou estampado em um tecido de outra época.
Comecei meus estudos em belas artes em 1993, antes de uma longa carreira no direito e na consultoria me levar para um caminho diferente. Voltar ao design foi como voltar para casa, e trago comigo tudo o que aprendi sobre o mundo, sobre a beleza e sobre a importância de prestar atenção a cada peça que crio.
Minhas influências incluem William Morris, o movimento Arts and Crafts, a arte chinesa e as tradições têxteis da alta costura da indústria da moda. Eu crio para pessoas que desejam que sua casa, seus projetos e as coisas que criam sejam intencionais e vibrantes.

I'm Maria, a surface pattern designer based in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and I create hand-drawn patterns for people who appreciate beautiful things and have the distinctive taste to know what they want.
My process usually begins with my walks in nature. I forage for flowers and plants, press them, draw them in ink and paint, and then bring them into Adobe Illustrator to become the foundations of my repeat patterns. Every design starts with something real — a petal, a stem, a leaf studied closely — which is why my work has the quality it does. It's detailed, realistic, and just a little nostalgic, like something you might find pressed inside an old book or printed on fabric from another era.
I started my education in fine arts in 1993, before a long career in law and consulting pulled me in a different direction. Coming back to design has felt like coming home, and I bring everything I've learned about the world, about beauty, and about paying attention to every piece I make.
My influences include William Morris, the Arts and Crafts movement, chinoiserie, and the couture textile traditions of the fashion industry. I design for the person who wants their home, their projects, and the things they make to feel intentional and alive.
