Ho sempre creato arte, fin da quando ho memoria. Da bambina, scarabocchiavo sempre ai margini dei quaderni e sulle pagine dei compiti. All'epoca, era semplicemente un modo divertente per passare il tempo. Crescendo, l'arte è diventata qualcosa di molto più profondo e significativo. È diventata il mio sfogo, un luogo dove potevo esprimere emozioni per le quali non sempre trovavo le parole, soprattutto durante il periodo in cui affrontavo problemi di salute mentale.
A 18 anni, ho deciso di prendere sul serio la mia passione e di intraprendere la carriera artistica. Ho continuato gli studi alla Texas Southern University, dove ho recentemente conseguito la laurea triennale in Disegno e Pittura. Durante quel periodo, sono cresciuto non solo come artista, ma anche come persona, imparando quanto possa essere potente la narrazione visiva.
Credo che il mio lavoro parli non solo per me, ma anche per gli altri che possono vedervi riflessa una parte di sé. Ho fondato MMcKoy Art Studio per rendere l'arte più accessibile a chi si sente attratto da essa come me. Oltre a condividere le mie opere, offro anche formazione artistica, strumenti e risorse perché credo nell'aiutare gli altri a crescere creativamente, proprio come ho potuto fare io.
Nel profondo del mio cuore, credo che ognuno sia un artista a modo suo; dobbiamo solo darci il permesso di abbracciare questa nostra natura. Spero che quando qualcuno vede o possiede una mia opera, si senta rafforzato nella propria identità e ispirato a creare, esprimersi e raccontare la propria storia.
I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I was always scribbling in the margins of my notebooks and across my homework pages. Back then, it was simply a fun way to pass the time. As I got older, art became something much deeper and more meaningful. It became my outlet, a place where I could express emotions that I didn’t always have the words for, especially while navigating my mental health.
At 18, I decided to take my passion seriously and pursue art as a career. I went on to study at Texas Southern University, where I recently earned my Bachelor’s degree in Drawing and Painting. During that time, I grew not only as an artist but as a person, learning how powerful visual storytelling can be.
I believe my work speaks not only for me, but for others who can see parts of themselves reflected in it. I started MMcKoy Art Studio as a way to make art more accessible to people who connect with it in the same way I do. Alongside sharing my artwork, I also provide art education, tools, and resources because I believe in helping others grow creatively, just as I’ve been able to.
At my core, I believe everyone is an artist in their own way; we just have to give ourselves permission to embrace it. I hope that when someone sees or owns a piece of my work, they feel empowered in who they are and inspired to create, express, and tell their own story.
