In April of 2020, David and I (Amanda) met in an online Scrabble match. How romantic! We shared a bit of banter, played dozens of games, traded emails, eventually phone numbers, and video called nearly 24 hours a day. He saw me drool in my sleep, and I saw his hilariously messy mid-morning walks home from the pub. It didn't take long to realize we wanted to be around each other all the time, more than just through a screen.

In July of 2020, David moved from Linlithgow, Scotland to New Jersey, USA.
We met at the airport, fully masked, barely able to see each other's faces, and shared a hug that felt like we'd had a million times before.

We remained in quarantine together for months to follow, making the most of our crazy situation. We shared thousands of laughs, hundreds of memories, and then came the conversation that changed our lives - tablet.

David mentioned tablet to me and asked if I'd ever had it, but more than that, I'd never even heard of it. He mentioned having cleaned out his dad's attic while in Linlithgow and keeping a family recipe box belonging to his Gran Chisholm. In that box were two recipes for treats he hadn't had homemade since he was a wee boy - tablet and shortbread.

The next day, I got to work doing my best to replicate these recipes. The shortbread was fantastic right away. Buttery, flaky, and just as David remembered. The tablet was, to put it mildly, a disaster. It was pale, runny and nothing like the fudge-like treat he had described. We both took turns making attempt after attempt to get it right, and give or take a dozen batches, we finally mastered his Gran's technique for the perfect golden tablet.

Back in January of 2021, we decided to honor her name through these confections across the US. It has been an amazing journey so far and we have heard so many incredible stories from people who took one bite and sailed down memory lane.
