De meeste ingelijste insecten volgen dezelfde formule: zwart frame, witte achtergrond, plaatsen, klaar.
Daar is niets mis mee... het is alleen niet wat ik wilde creëren. Ik wilde iets anders bieden.
Very Still Creatures is ontstaan vanuit het idee dat deze ongelooflijke dieren als kunstwerken behandeld kunnen worden, verheven door prachtige lijsten en bijpassende passe-partouts. Elk stuk wordt met zorg gemaakt. Gepositioneerd, geconserveerd en tentoongesteld in een met de hand uitgekozen vintage of op maat gemaakte lijst met individueel gesneden passe-partouts en zorgvuldig gekozen materialen. Ik besteed veel meer tijd aan de presentatie dan nodig is - en dat vind ik helemaal prima.
Elk exemplaar is uniek. De lijst, de kleuren, de texturen en de compositie worden gekozen om het diertje zelf te complementeren, niet om een standaardontwerp te gebruiken. Het doel is niet simpelweg een kever of een mot tentoon te stellen; het is om iets unieks en absoluut verbluffends te creëren. Iets dat een gesprek op gang brengt en verwondering wekt.
Al onze insecten zijn afkomstig van duurzame leveranciers en verzamelaars over de hele wereld en worden op ethische wijze verkregen. Na aankomst wordt elk exemplaar zorgvuldig gerehydrateerd, met de hand gepositioneerd, gedroogd, geconserveerd en ingelijst. Het is een langzaam proces, maar ongelooflijk bevredigend als je het leuk vindt om je te verdiepen in de details van een ambacht.
Naast ingelijste insecten vind je er ook geconserveerde rariteiten, curiositeiten, beperkte collecties en af en toe een experiment dat om half twaalf 's avonds een goed idee leek.

Very Still Creatures was born from the idea that these incredible animals can be treated like works of art, elevated by gorgeous frames and complimentary mats. Every piece is made with intention. Positioned, preserved, and displayed in a hand-selected vintage or custom frame with individually cut matting and thoughtfully chosen materials. I spend far more time on the presentation than is necessary - and I'm totally cool with that.
Every specimen is different. The frame, the colors, the textures, and the composition are chosen to complement the creature itself, not a cookie cutter design. The goal isn't simply to display a beetle or a moth; it's to create something unique and absolutely stunning. Something that starts a conversation and incites wonder.
All of our insects are sourced ethically from sustainable suppliers and collectors around the world. Once they arrive, each specimen is carefully rehydrated, positioned by hand, dried, preserved, and framed. It's a slow process, but incredibly satisfying if you enjoy getting into the details of a craft.
