bopdb is een muziekkunstproject gebaseerd op één idee: de platen die de cultuur hebben gevormd, verdienen meer dan alleen een hoesnotitie. Elke print begint als een handgetekende infographic, die vervolgens met de hand wordt onderzocht, van tekst voorzien en geïllustreerd. Boordevol details die de moeite waard zijn om aandachtig te bekijken. Albumtijdlijnen. Overzichten van muzikanten. Opnamecontext. Historische voetnoten. Alles getekend met inkt op papier voordat het een poster aan je muur wordt.
De kunst omvat alle genres. Jazz, rock, blues, soul, hiphop. Alles wat relevant is voor de muziekgeschiedenis, is welkom. Recente releases omvatten werken uit de 1959-serie, een diepgaande verkenning van vijf baanbrekende jazzalbums die in één jaar tijd alles veranderden.
Over de prenten
Elk ontwerp wordt afgedrukt op premium mat papier van galeriekwaliteit. De bestanden worden op groot formaat getekend en in hoge resolutie gereproduceerd, waardoor de details ook van dichtbij zichtbaar blijven.
Over het proces
Het werk wordt op de langzame manier gemaakt. Schets in potlood, lijnwerk in inkt, belettering met de hand. Geen shortcuts. Ik ben gewoon een kunstenaar die geobsedeerd raakte door muziekgeschiedenis en het begon te tekenen.

About the process
The work is made the slow way. Layout in pencil, line work in ink, lettering by hand. No shortcuts. Just am artist who got obsessed with music history and started drawing it.
