SHINSHI KATO was born in 1967.


He grew up in a relatively poor household and was not able to buy anything trendy.

Instead, he used his time making creative toys by redesigning daily items and drawing manga. For example, he made some unique new coin banks from an empty box of sweets.

He was in charge of character design at a game company and became interested in a wide range of designs. He continued to challenge himself with various jobs and was introduced to goldsmithing at a jewelry class that he happened to visit.

In his thirties, he finally learned the joy of manufacturing and lived a sleepless cycle of creating and working part-time.

Even though he was confident in his techniques, his elaborate jewelries did not sell.


Meanwhile, after losing his beloved cat, he decided to make cat products that resembled her.

Instead of drawing a cat as it is, however, he designed it so that it can be enjoyed by all visual aspects such as the back side, which is not visible when worn. He added realistic components, as well as natural and lovable deformations to the cat's facial expression.

His animal accessory designs are sold in pop-up stores at department stores and online retailers.

From September 2011, Oyamazaki Sanso Museum of Art (Kyoto) has displayed and sold his accessories of morpho butterflies.

In February 2015, SHINSHI KATO participated as a guest artist at Milan Preta Porte in Italy.
