This kanzashi half ball is made out silk that I dyed in shades of blue to purple. The piece is made out of 40 hand folded petals. The flower features lots of pearly stamen and silver stamen accents.

The flower measures about 2.5 inches in diameter and just under 1.5 inches high. It is attached to an alligator clip. The back of the flower is covered in 100% wool felt in a matching blue color.

What Is Tsumami Kanzashi??

Tsumami means to pinch. Kanzashi means hair stick. What this means is that each petal is made out of a square piece of silk that is pinched together with tweezers to make the shape. Each petal is then arranged together with other petals to make the flower form. It is like unit origami only with hand dyed silk, vintage silks, and kimono silks!
