The Red Knot is carved as a realistic artistic interpretation. That is, I focus on the total presentation.
The overall size in inches is 7L, 5W, 9H.
The body is basswood carved and sculptured with knives, gouges and grinding tools. A burning tool is used to create a fine texture. The eyes are glass. The legs are made of soldered copper. I hand painted the piece with professional grade oil paint. The terrain I created from a tree root I found on a lake. It has naturally embedded rocks and is a one of a kind find. I surrounded it with beach stones, seashells and sand. The base is handmade using cherry. This shorebird is found mainly on the east coast.
The bottom has a burned in title, my name and serial number. It also includes a recessed 1960 penny, which was the year I sold my first painting. The penny also is for me a spiritual connection to my father who taught me the love of nature.
Christmas Price Reduction From $350 To $280 (20%) until Christmas
