I started with a commercial blend of 70% superwash merino (23 micron/64s) and 30% bright trilobal nylon which is the same thing as firestar but by a different name. This blend is soft enough for babywear and machine washable as well. It would be good for socks as the nylon would give strength to what is otherwise a very soft wool.

I've dyed it, rinsed it, dried it, carded this twice and then pulled the resulting batts into rovings. There are four balls of roving totalling 118g, they gradually change colour along the length from brown through pink to orange. The last photo shows the fibre on the drum and shows the change in colour that will occur in each ball of roving. There is some variation in the thickness of the roving but that is only to be expected with hand production.

UK buyers can have 50p refunded by choosing second class post (ask me in the notes to seller) and any additional purchases will be post free.
