I have several critters that are IN LOVE with their cholla wood. Currently I use it for many of our animal friends -- our plecostomus fish eats it, our leopard gecko crawls all over it and both snakes drape themselves on it to bask.

The cholla is a cactus that is native to New Mexico and other parts of the Southwest and northern Mexico. The particular type from the Santa Fe are is the Cane Cholla. When the cactus reaches the end of its life cycle the supporting structure turns into a tough wood that is an amazing material. Everything I offer is collected from areas where (to my knowledge) no pesticides or chemicals are ever used. Most of it comes from vast open spaces. I carefully high grade and eliminate anything that is brittle or appears to be disintegrating.

What you will receive is not chemically treated -- I use a soft nylon bristle brush to loosen the majority of soil and then rinse it in clean water from our municipal water system. It's dried in the sun. What you choose to do with it from there is up to you! You will receive a small priority mail box jam-packed with pieces measuring 2" - 6" long. Diameters vary from 3/4" - 2". If you have a preference for sizes to be included in your box, please incicate that in your "message to seller" and I will do my best to accommodate your needs! Larger, longer pieces available -- please PM me for information and availability! The photo is representative of the material used to create the boxes offered here. If you would like both ends cut (some specimens aren't cut at both ends), please also indicate this.
