Northwest Glass Company briefly produced clear and ‘beer bottle’ colored floats shortly after WW II and into the 1950’s. The floats generally measure 4” to 6” Diameter - though they also made limited number of 3-1/2" Diameter floats. The floats are especially coveted in this smaller size as so few were ever made. "Beer Bottle" is a Northwest Glass Company float that measures 3-1/2" diameter or 11-1/4” circumference. Please read on - there's quite a story to this 'beer bottle' with its brilliant fire-orange flare!

This pristine, sparkling, molded glass fishing float is a chance to own an antique 2-piece American-made float. This is a "pristine, made to fish, never used antique" piece, still 'as new' from the original box. A once-in-a-life time opportunity bumped into me a while back when a gentleman passed on a box of floats from his friend. The friend had spent 50 years in Japan and brought back from Japan - to the US - in the original carton (see all photos please) - a collection of untouched 'brand new' antique fishing floats. The floats are some 60 years old and have never been touched. The box was in deteriorating condition so I diligently took many photos of it from all angles, plus in/out, including the trademarks.

No one knows how the floats originally got to Japan. It's possible that the Japanese actually purchased them, though that makes little sense since they had at their finger tips thousands of well made fishing floats. Is it possible one of the Japanese glass manufacturers in the 1940's - 50's purchased these as proto-types with a thought to re-produce a similar genre of floats? Or possibly they were sent to a Japanese manufacturer as a gift, as souvenirs of American made fishing floats from one of the few US companies to ever produce US fishing floats. What ever the reason for ending up in Japan in their original box from the manufacturer, the floats made it back home, thanks to an American who spent 50 years in Japan.

All of the Northwest Glass Company fishing floats have a unique looking 'signature' stick-up seal button attached to a little neck raised up from the glass. The seals were therefore quite vulnerable to damage. Most I’ve seen are chipped, some badly, others mildly. These floats are, for some reason, and people who collect know – somewhat difficult to find. There aren’t a lot around! But they are unique and you don’t have to go to Europe and pay a fortune for a very different type of non-Japanese float with an unmistakable look.

This listing is for the sale of one NW Co float, even though a number of floats are shown in the last photo. The float you receive will be similar to the photos, taken from the box, all exactly alike - authentic vintage yet brand new - and absolutely beautiful with no surface wear or damage, no scratches, buffing, pits, chips or cracks, and no grazing. With exception of the odd 'straw' mark or natural imperfection in the glass from the manufacture process itself, the float you receive will be a bona fide antique in "as new" condition! The color is lovely. Some versions of 'beer bottle' are quite brown, or amber-brown. This collection is 'beer bottle' with an orange-fire hue to the glass! Glowing and luminescent with a lovely luster to the thick, quality vintage glass.

"Beer Bottle" is a Northwest Glass Company float that measures 3-1/2" diameter or 11-1/4” circumference. The base on the NW Glass floats is very interesting. These are a 2-piece molded float. The base is a flat round plate with nicely beveled edges. A bit like a mirror. There is a beautiful textured pattern on the outer edge of the surround to the beveled edge and exterior edge of the plate. About 1/2" up from the beveled edge is an embossed line extending around the circumference of the base of these floats, giving them a nicely tailored, finished sort of neat look.

'Beer Bottle NWG' makes a nice desk companion. It glows in low light with hints of fire. With brighter light, more fire. Makes an unforgettable, heritage 'man' gift, 'woman' gift, house-warming gift, or creative display.
