An antique French man's chemise or nightshirt made from hand loomed hemp or linen

This shirt probably dates back to the 1800s or early 1900s and is the tradtional long chemise or nightshirt shape. It would be ideal for gardeners, artists etc.

This one has clearly had a lot of use in its life and sections of it have been carefully replaced with heavy white cotton. The collar has been replaced, a section on the back, both cuffs and a section on each sleeve. Although this was an everyday item of apparel it was obviously valued enough to warrant repair. It has some faint rust marks which I have not treated and which will probably fade with laundering. The price reflects the repairs. It is still a beautiful item, charged with history.

It is free fitting, measuring over 45 inches (116cm) around the bust area (when measured under the arms) and it is 39inches long (89cm) from the shoulder to the hem

If you wish to make multiple purchases I am happy to combine shipping, please convo me for an accurate price.

Frequently asked questions about Histoires

I am open to a layaway plan for more expensive items with a combined value of over $100 (including shipping). This way you can split your payments over a period of time between 1 and 3 months. We will agree the payments at the beginning and then your first payment reserves your item.

Please note that after you begin your payments I am unable to refund you or cancel the transaction as the item is reserved for you and unavailable for sale to anyone else. The item will stay on reserve until you finish your final payment.
I will consider offers on single or multiple purchases on any of my items. It's always worth asking me!

Don't forget that combining shipping on multiple purchases delivered to the same address can give significant savings.
The quickest and most reliable shipping I offer is using the Colissimo service. Shipping times with Colissimo are 5 - 8 working days from dispatch to delivery. If you want to add this service to your order please purchase the Colissimo upgrade.

If you want a quotation for a quicker service please contact me before your purchase as these services are very expensive.
Please always contact me via Etsy conversations, this way I can link your message easily to your order.

Once you have ordered, please continue to check your Etsy conversations, just in case I need any further information (such as a contact phone number) in order to ship your item.
I will combine shipping on multiple purchases wherever possible.

I can combine shipping with items in my vintage sewing supplies shop, Couturesse.

Please contact me if you want to purchase from both shops and I will set up a custom listing.

If you want an exact price for shipping on your order please contact me before you buy so that I can set up a custom listing for all the items you want with the correct shipping charge.

Please note that it is not always possible to combine shipping on large / heavy / fragile items as the economical La Poste service has an upper limit of 2kg. It may actually be cheaper to send 2 or more separate parcels if the items are very heavy.
Yes! I am happy to reserve items for up to a maximum of 1 month. If you would like to reserve an item I will ask you to pay 10% deposit.
