Twelve (12) vintage cabochons in "white opal", which is a rich transparent purple. These faceted stones have flat gold foiled backs, and measure 18x13 mm each. I've tried to photograph them with a variety of lighting conditions in order to give a clear sense of color, cut and quality.

They were manufactured in West Germany from the 1950's - 1970's for the costume jewelry trade; they were meant to resemble gemstones, which is evidenced by quirky color names like "saphyr" and "topas". The stones show typical wear for glass of this age, such as small nicks around the edges or foil oxidization; this does not detract from their beauty or elegance.

I use these pieces in my own work which you can view at my other Etsy shop: http://beadmask.etsy.com
As you can see, I typically set them in seed beaded bezels, vintage filigrees or leather. They are also excellent for mounting, gluing, wrapping, altered art and whatever else your imagination can stir up!
