This dynamic green duo is truly astounding. Perfect for your library or decorating needs.

The title page for Volume One reads as follows, and please bear with me it’s a doozy:

The Speaker’s Garland and Literary Bouquet combining 100 choice selections, Nos. 1,2,3 and 4. Four volumes in One embracing rare poetical gems, fine specimens of oratory, popular patriotic effusions, thrilling sentiment, impassioned eloquence, tender pathos, and sparkling humor. For the use of lyceums, temperance societies, anniversaries, exhibition-rooms, church sociables, and the home circle; also as a class-book in schools and academies. Self Published by P. Garrett & Company of Philadelphia in 1873.

The title page for Volume Two reads as follows: The Speaker’s Garland and Literary Bouquet Volume II combining 100 choice selections, Nos. 5,6,7 and 8. A reposition of rare gems for declamations, public readings, elocutionary exercises, social entertainments, winter gatherings, and family firesides. Self published by P. Garrett & Company of Philadelphia in 1875.

Each antique book is hard bound with green paper over boards and embossed with black and gold ink. The books each measure 7¾ by 5 by 1¾ and have 720 numbered pages plus indexes and end pages. Famous politicians, orators, poets, and authors represented in these books include the likes of Poe, Browning, Lincoln, Longfellow, Cicero, Shakespeare, Dickens and Lord Byron.

The books are in very good shape for being nearly 140 years old. The covers are remarkably vibrant in color but do show some shelf wear and are fraying at the corners, edges and spine. The bindings to both books are fragile but all pages are present, intact, and free from markings. There is some slight foxing and discoloration to the pages. Books have a faint musty smell.

These books are an amazing piece of post Civil War cultural and literary history.
