Goddess Saraswati

I don't often make delicate, feminine necklaces this size, but felt the beautiful goddess pendant required a dignified presentation to show her off to perfection, without stealing the show. Gemstones seemed a good choice so I've paired Saraswati with ruby, and Lakshmi with sapphires.

The rubies are faceted and a misty rose shade, complimenting every skin tone and neutral enough to accent a wide variety of colors in your wardrobe.

I added garnet in both rough cut and small polished rounds. The rough cut contrasts well with the faceted ruby. The garnet rounds are high on the neck, near the clasp. Delicate 22 kt gold fired seed beads separate the stones. Ill get better shots tomorrow, early in the day.

The golden beads are a type of traditional tribal bead made Thailand. There is a core made from resin and wax, around this is wrapped high quality sheet silver that is then goldwashed. These are vintage and nicely worn, with a few almost shallow dents (visible in the photos) common to old beads.

Look at the delicate details in this exquisite rendering, like fine lace. The resemblance to old ivory is quite close. She has been lightly antiqued. The actual *pendant is a diminutive 2 inches not including the bale above her head

In Hinduism, Saraswati represents intelligence, consciousness, cosmic knowledge, creativity, education, enlightenment, music, the arts, eloquence and power. Hindus worship her not only for "academic knowledge", but for "divine knowledge"

She is generally shown with four arms, representing the four aspects of human personality in learning: mind, intellect, alertness, and ego. Alternatively, these four arms also represent the four Vedas, the primary sacred books for Hindus.
1 6/8" vertical x 1 " horizontal, measured at the widest points and including the creamy pearl like bail above Saraswati's head.

The necklace is 18" long.
PHOTO 5 shows another design, featuring goddess Lakshmi, and combined with sapphires and iolite. This necklace is no longer available.

*This pendant is designed and made by Robin Nolls,(http://www.etsy.com/shop/missionnow?ref=seller_info) who has a shop right here on Etsy. The material is designed to mimic ivory in appearance and weight - no animal lost its life in order for you to have this pendant.
