These mid century ottomans with storage inside were often used as sewing baskets. From the 1940s or 1950s, this is an unusual retro find.

The alternating green and ivory white 'pie slices' are each outlined in raised welt cords covered in the green, adding visual texture. Speaking of texture, there is a luscious patina on the old vinyl, and the ivory is mottled in tan.

Two rows of white welt cord in the ivory vinyl trim the sides of the footstool.

The lines are delightful, like a mushroom shape, with the lid wider than the base.

The lid lifts off, and the underside and inside the ottoman are covered in a silvery material.

About 18-1/2" across the top and 15-1/2" high. One 1/4" piece of green vinyl missing on the side of the lid, a tiny puncture in the top of the lid, and there are some scrapes on the sides if you look at it in light reflecting off the sides. The center button needs to be reattached, it has come loose. It's surprisingly heavy and solid.

A step above most mid-century footstools, makes me think -- in the best way -- of a circus tent.

This is one retro decorator item that can anchor a room or finish it to perfection!
