These velvet Michiyukis are rare. I've spoken with other collectors who say they have never seen one. From what I gather, the fabric, which is a cut velvet on a background of smooth silk, was made in Germany after the war and very popular in Japan in the 1950s. Japanese velvet isn't like the velvet we are used to in the west. It's not a real 'drapey' velvet like you would think. It's about the weight of a light thin wale corduroy.

This is a beautiful garment of black with red designs of flowers, ferns waves and a bunch of things. It's in like new condition. It has a nice lining of white with red shibori designs. Beautiful!

Michiyukis are jackets to be worn over Kimonos. The length of the Michiyuki dictates it's formality, the longer the more formal. This one is just about 40 inches from the neck to the hem and 23 inches from side seam to side seam. It almost comes to my knees and I am 5'8". The average height of a woman in Japan is 5'0".

Japanese clothing is made one size fits all. Now, one size fits all is probably not the same in Japan as it would be in the north America or Europe. I have tried these on and they fit me in the arms and across the chest, but I'm a bit too curvy below the waist to wear them. I'm a size 18 and 5'8". This coat comes to about mid thigh. It's quite comfortable across the bust. And that's a 38C bust. ;-)

This garment is exquisitely made. It is all sewn by hand. There are no exposed seams anywhere. It is like new condition, with no stains or tears of any kind. These are authentic Japanese traditional kimonos. They do not come with belts like a bathrobe, nor do they come in varying sizes. But realize that this is a used item that is at least 30 years old.

I started importing these kimonos from Japan for the fabric, but most of them are in such perfect condition that it's really hard to get out the seam ripper. I decided to sell them complete, or many of them anyway.

From a now and forever smoke free, cat free household. I get these items from Japan and I have no knowledge of where or how they were stored, however. Sometimes they smell a little moth ballie as they have been stored. I take them out and air them for a few days.

I try to represent the color as accurately as I can on my computer screen. Screens vary and I have no control over that.
