Upcycled petticoat skirt in a delicate shade of antique ivory, with an ornate gathered and embellished openwork hem ruffle. This vintage style petticoat is cut with a straight, slight A-line style, making it perfect for adding a graceful lacy underlayer to Edwardian/Victorian or other styles of long skirts. This petticoat is ankle to calf length on a person of average height.

Made from 100% vintage cotton, upcycled from disused top-quality vintage linens/sheets. The fabric is in beautiful, perfect condition, despite being (by my guess) 50+ years old.

(I know, it was inevitable I was going to name something after Downton Abbey sooner or later. I couldn't help it, that programme is just ridiculously stylish...!)

-X— About Postage --X-
Gaia Noir is UK-based and ships internationally - however, Airmail does generate pollution and Co2. If you are located very far from the UK, please consider if you can buy a similar item locally instead. It's maybe unusual for an Etsy shop to mention this, but it's important for a genuinely eco business to be honest with its awesome customers (that's you :) ) about all aspects of eco-friendly shopping. You can also reduce postal pollution a bit by requesting Surface Mail (just leave a quick note to me if you'd prefer this method; it takes 2-5 weeks to arrive in Europe, up to 6 weeks for the USA, and up to 12 weeks for Australasia), or planning ahead to buy items you like altogether, so one combined package is sent instead of multiple small ones. Your item will be securely sent in 100% recycled tinybox.com tissue paper and good quality re-used or new packaging, with a recycled business card to keep or - if you'd like to do this wee business a kind favour, thanks! - pass on to a friend.

-X—About Upcycled Items—X-
'Upcycling' means improving an existing item with small changes. Major changes (such as completely unravelling an item to re-use the yarn) are usually called recycling instead. Upcycling is eco (and saves you money!) because it uses less time/energy/materials than creating from scratch, and it reduces the amount of good materials being thrown away. Sometimes it's a matter of opinion what 'improves' existing items - parody site Regretsy.com even reckons it's possible to accidentally 'downcycle' and make an existing item worse! - but generally it means customizing a boring item, fixing a flawed item, turning an item into a different or more useful item, or re-using parts from a broken item. For upcycled garments I only use vintage/second-hand materials which are already perfectly clean, well constructed, and of good quality fabric.
