Antique M. Hohner diatonic button box accordion made in Germany. 2 treble rows, 8 bass, bottom stop button. Wood, mother of pearl, metal, paper, leather, cloth construction.

This is a well worn, beautiful early twentieth century accordion (accordeon) with the St. Louis 1904 Gold Medal lettering. Red stained wood with scroll work, mother of pearl buttons, clover-printed paper bellows with brass corners, steel and leather reed works, leather straps, and decorative metal hooks and screws throughout, along with a button on the bottom. It measures 11.5" x 6" x 13" high.

The accordion still plays a sound, but it exhibits all sorts of age and use-related wear, and I urge you to look well at the photos and feel free to request further views and pictures. The most significant wear includes holes along the paper seams which have been left or repaired with various kinds of tape. Some of these are small, some significant. As well, two of the treble buttons' mother of pearl fronts have been broken away. The keys themselves still depress fine, but the pretty, smooth discs are gone. In addition, there is plenty of wear to the surface all over, marks and dings and so on, and some of the little (otherwise excellent) leather reed flaps are missing.

On the positive side, the inside wood and workings are largely quite pristine, the leather strap handles are strong (if a little out of shape). The main body of the accordion is sturdy, the little metal "feet" and other nicely detailed hardware are present and working, and she bellows a nice hearty sound. The functional problems (holes in paper, missing leather flaps) can be professionally repaired, but can also just continue to be cobbled at home to make it work, by taping the paper, and adding new simple tiny rectangles of leather.

A very nice collection addition, or fix-er-up project of love.
