This marvelous neckpiece has antique silver metal beads from Rajasthan, India. They were quite expensive but I couldn't resist them. The cone and two beads in the pendant, the silver melon beads, and the curved cone beads at the back are from a very old arm bracelet.

The two antique silver metal "beetle nut" beads are beautiful old tribal amulet beads with projections of simulated gajre balls made from stamped sheet metal and mounted on a metallic base. This type of amulet also comes from Rajasthan and was made from the late 19th to early 20th centuries.

They are worn by Dangee and Patel (peasant) women in Rajasthan India. You can see a similar sample in "Traditional Jewelry of India” by Oppi Untracht page-255, and in Ghysel's collection “A World of Bracelets “by Anne van Cutsem, p. 194. I've seen single beetle nut beads like this selling for $145 each on Etsy and I saw a bracelet in another Etsy shop with 7 of these "beetle nut" beads selling for $800. It was huge.

I combined these beautiful silver beads with black/gray cat's eye beads. The clasp, small geometric spacers, and small daisy spacers are all sterling silver. This could be worn by a bold male, too! This magnificent museum-quality piece is really more stunning than in the photos.

necklace: 20" (51cm) plus the focal pendant: 2 1/2" (6cm)

Rajasthan, in the far western part of India, was my favorite place in India when I spent 6 weeks there in 1995 - the palaces, forts, bazaars, camels, food, colorful costumes and fabulous jewelry were magnificent!
Be sure to check out my other Indian pieces in the section "Tibet and India."
