Mainbow is a Eurorack video synth module consisting of four function generators and a wavefolding NTSC/PAL video encoder. Hue, saturation, luminance, alpha colour space. Alpha represents transparency over an external video signal. All signalling is LZX compatible 0-1v. It also contains glitch effects and filters for producing music responsive patterns.

Each function generator can produce seven waveforms with phase, frequency, amplitude, and mix modulation. Elaborate patterns emerge when they modulate each other. Function generators output a monochrome video signal in addition to a 0-1v signal.

The module is sold as a DIY kit containing faceplate, circuit board, and components. It uses nothing but large easy-to-solder thru-hole parts.

This is an improved 2.0 version. Improvements: Automatic genlock, higher video stability, both NTSC and PAL are supported on all units, aluminum faceplate, larger panel, nicer knobs, options menu.

This is a module only. It requires a Eurorack case and power supply to operate.

Arrived in great condition! Works well and generates really interesting patterns. My video mixer doesn't like the output, but it works well as an end-of-chain processor too. EDIT 4/2: Russell has reached out to help with troubleshooting, and I'm super appreciative of that! In addition, I was able to find a workaround using a pair of composite/vga and vga/composite converters from the output of the mainbow to the input of my mixer (a v4), and it's working just fine now.

Great Synth to play with, love the oscillators and the way the patchbay works. In therms of building this synth is a delight. I've done many DIY kits before but this was so well thought out by Russel that making mistakes is nearly impossible. Resistors pinned to a sheet, following that sheet makes finding the corresponding place on the PCB really easy to find... It was a pleasure building this. Now time to make some art. Thanks!
