A vintage little copper milk jug mimicking the huge traditional pitchers of the old times.

This old jug measures approximately 4.5 inches high (11.5 cm) and has a 3 inch diameter at the base (8 cm). It weighs 3.5 oz (100 gr).

This particular style of jugs were used by milkmen here a very long time ago. Much larger ones of course, so that this item would be like 1/20 of a regular massive pitcher weighing several pounds. I can still remember the shiny tin coated jugs of our milkman as he would transfer milk to his smaller flasks and then from them, pour it into our pots. At some households, there would be smaller jugs that looked similar to the main container which had a very familiar image in daily life.

This one is one of the smallest sized ones I ever saw. It has a very simple and yet beautiful design. It might be a little large for a dollhouse but would make a nice kitchen display. If it were to be tinned, the jug would make a unique creamer.

The story of these copper jugs is similar to that of some other collectible items. They were made and used as practical items several decades ago. Gradually glass and plastic containers replaced them. Losing their main function, the heavier ones were sold by owners mostly for scrap. Later, when people began to view them as nostalic items that reminded them of their grandparents, there were not many of these pitchers left.

I don't think this jug was ever tin coated. It shows some tarnish and discoloration. There are many surface scratches and darkened stains. There are tiny bits of green patina around the lid and on the inside. Needs a nice cleaning and would benefit from polishing. The handle is very firmly secured to the body with pins. The lid too is firmly in place and works fine, it only moves slightly sideways as was originally intended to. The bottom is a little dented. The body doesn't have holes, cracks or tears. I tested it with water and there was no leakage.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. I can take and upload photos from different angles if you like.
