Your Father's Mustache was a famous Dixie banjo nightclub chain with clubs located in 13 cities at the height of it's 13 year career, which started back in the 60's. Apparently back in the day, "the stache" was the HOPPIN' place to be and I am sure this wonderful ceramic mug was filled with many a libation to toast all kinds of GOOD TIMES!

Made by McCoy Pottery, this mug is for the left-handed gentleman. The mug stands a little over 5" tall, and 5" in width including the handle. The McCoy imprint can be found on the bottom of the mug along with USA. In fabulous vintage condition it is very clean, and the logo on the front and back of the mug is still nice and crisp. There are three small chips on the inner rim of the very base of the mug, but the piece is still nice and solid weighing in at 1 lb 5 oz.

This retro piece of vintage barware would make an excellent gift for any dad, grad, hubby, or friend! CHEERS!

After an inspiring visit to San Francisco's Red Garter night club, Harvard grad/banjo player Joel Schiavone opened 3 Red Garter franchises when he returned back east. When conflict eventually arose with the California based club, Shiavone bought all 3 of the eastern franchises and officially changed his nightclub's name to "Your Father's Mustache" in 1964. Schiavone himself traveled between and played at his clubs.

With the rise of disco in the late 60's, early 70's, interest in banjo nightclubs began to wane and Schiavone began to close some of his establishments. The last club on Bourbon Street, New Orleans was destroyed by fire in 1975, ending a wonderful era in banjo nightclub history.
