The design came to be when commissioned by a friend who made one simple requirement, pray. So when I handed it to her she had not seen the design I drew, or any part of the process. As I thought about choosing the variety of glass needed, I decided to make a pair, so that this hawk could speak to someone else as well.

Rich blue stained glass for the sky, and earthtones for the body, and tinged with red for the tail, on slate, 9" in diameter, charcoal grout, and a leather strap for hanging. Indoors or sheltered locations are best.

All mosaics, unless otherwise indicated, or a house number, are for indoor use or for a sheltered location. If you desire a mosaic for outdoors, contact us for a special commission.

Mosaic by Wayne Stratz.

Ships USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation and International First Class to all other destinations.

Use stainless steel or brass screws, designed for your cladding. Masonry requires anchors.

Place plaque at the level you wish to see it, and mark inside the holes with a pencil where you plan to drill.

Drill pilot holes, and insert anchors(if masonry), then line your plaque’s predrilled holes with the pilot ones, and insert screws, hand tightening just until snug, and taking care not to put pressure on the slate. Rubber washers may be used to help cushion the contact points.

Consult your local hardware store for guidance regarding type of screws, drill bits and rubber washers.
House Numbers are 6-8 weeks turnaround.

After receiving your order, we put it on our studio whiteboard. When you are close to the top of the queue, we check in to confirm colors and numbers. In the meantime, you are welcome to ask any questions or send photos of your house or color names.

Wayne designs and cuts the numbers, glues them to slate, and then hands it over to Margaret for the background.

Margaret glues as she goes, gauging how each piece relates to the next, then comes grouting, sealing, and cleaning. Each sign is cocooned in bubblewrap and cardboard before putting in another box for extra cushioning.

We ship by USPS Priority Mail within the US and to Canada.
