:: Timewheels ::

This necklace is pure Desert Primitive: bold, rough, organic, and earthy...but somehow elegant, too, like the land is elegant. It's also comfortable and surprisingly lightweight for its size. A powerful talisman of time and the earth.

I started with the idea of placing a series of circular elements on a trapeze (or wishbone) setting. As I tried out many combinations, seeing what fit together and what didn't, a fossil theme emerged. Nearly all of the discs are fossils or castings of fossils. Two of them are bronze metal clay molded from spiraling ammonite fossils; two others are fossil fish vertebrae. I've also included a resin cast I made of another of my ammonites, in translucent sepia resin dusted with german silver. A smaller bronze metal clay disc was cast from a fossil shell I found south of here in the Quebradas Byway area in central New Mexico. There's also an ostrich eggshell disk and a hanging spike of bronze clay wrapped with silver. All of these handmade pieces rotate freely on the crosspiece of the trapeze.

The trapeze setting itself was made from heavy gauge sterling silver, hammered on desert rock, fire oxidized and burnished to a matte finish. It looks incredibly old. The leather cord is sturdy but supple. I rubbed it with organic jojoba oil rather than a commercial product since jojoba is the oil most like our own skin oils and very rich and gentle. At the juncture where the cords are spliced together a wrap of sterling and bronze wire conceals and protects the join. On the upper portion of the cord, a solitary bronze tube bead molded from an organ pipe cactus skeleton makes the perfect accent.

A connection to the deep, primal energy of the earth and its vast past, this piece feels both grounding and powerful, a power object from an ancient tribe. It feels strong, like warrior energy...good for navigating life's challenges, perhaps, and for helping you stand in your truth.

Size: 59cm from the back of the neck to the base of the dangling spike. The wishbone pendant is 15cm x 6cm x 3.5cm.

Care: Wipe with a damp cloth to clean the pendant. Use a metal polishing cloth to brighten the metal if desired. The leather may be cleaned and conditioned with a commercial leather care formula...check your local shoe or leather goods store.

The Timewheels will arrive beautifully giftwrapped in a hand-decorated box, along with a handwritten descriptive label.
