This small oil painting incorporates an image from The famous Bayeaux Tapestry, an 11th Century textile showing events related to the Norman invasion of England, particularly the Battle of Hastings. After a trip to Provence and Paris, I kept all papers and advertisements for exhibits that I collected during the visit and I've been including them in my paintings since that trip in 1999. It's a great way to keep memorabilia without feeling they're lost in a box somewhere. Seems like somebody is "preaching from the helm" in this snippet, eh? Also: a card from my husband's Army playing cards (hey, they were earmarked, anyways).

Using my favorite colors again, you see ochre and earth tones with turquoise blue.

Canvas is 4x4 inches square
Oil and collage on deep 1.5" canvas, white sides.
