Listing is for one 100% cotton fat quarter batik perfect for quilting, sewing or home decor.

Size: 22" wide by 18"

Hue: Saffron gold

Technique: Batik

Fiber: 100% high threadcount cotton

Motif size: approx 4" square

This batik fabric draws its inspiration from a minoan mosaic created in Crete in the 16th century B.C. Today, we can enjoy this motif with its fishscale pattern in both traditional and contemporary settings.

To create this fabric, I apply melted wax in a scallop pattern to white cotton fabric. The wax acts as a resist. I dye the fabric in a saffron yellow dyebath, and the waxed areas remain white.

To remove the wax, I boil the fabric in a very large pot. I wash it thoroughly to remove any excess dye that has not chemically bonded with the cotton.
