Designed by world-renowned Massimo Vignelli for Sasaki, Japan in the 1980's, this stunning Modernist tea serving set is one of my favorite estate sale finds yet!

Vignelli purposely forewent glazing on the edges of these pieces, leaving the white porcelain exposed, which lends an incredibly subdued, yet rich, matte finish. It's a style that -- as intended -- clearly distinguishes a piece of this dinnerware line upon first sight.

This particular set is in the most amazing shade of "matte pink" -- so light and subtle that it's almost white. And, true to Vignelli's form, all three pieces are comprised of basic geometric shapes -- a very Modernist approach to design.

Rarely do you come across more than one piece of this long-discontinued pattern at a time, so this is an incredible find. As an added bonus, each piece is chip-free, scratch-free and in like-new condition.

You get:

-- 6-CUP LIDDED TEA POT -- Measures 6-1/2" high x 8" in diameter, including handle.

-- MATCHING LIDDED SUGAR BOWL -- Measures 4-1/2" high (with lid) x 3-1/2" in diameter.

-- MATCHING CREAMER -- Measures 3" high x 5" in diameter, including handle.

Each piece bears the following stamp on its base: "Sasaki/Colorstone/Matte Pink/Vignelli Designs, Inc./Made In Japan."

ABOUT MASSIMO VIGNELLI:

Born in 1931 in Milan, modernist designer Massimo Vignelli has created everything from furniture product packaging. He's also the man behind some of the most recognizable corporate identities in the world, including American Airlines and the iconic signage for the New York City Subway system.

He has been quoted as saying, "If you can design one thing, you can design everything."

In recent years, Vignelli published an "A-to-Z" book of his design principles and concepts, which very closely approximates a course he taught at Harvard's School of Design and Architecture.
