Even though they aren't a native plant here on the West Coast i've been seeing beautiful blooming dogwood trees everywhere this year and it inspired me to make dogwood flowers my egg theme of the week this week. This egg has a beautiful pink dogwood tree almost in full bloom with a large curious bumblebee buzzing around it. It is lightly etched to give it an embossed look and feel and is a medium sized local free range goose egg.

This Goose egg comes from a small local free range hobby farm. It is emptied through a small hole in the bottom, dyed using the traditional Ukrainian pysanky method, and sealed with several coats of a UV protective varnish. The egg comes without a hanger so it can be displayed on a stand. *STAND IN PICTURE IS INCLUDED*

I was inspired to teach myself the ancient art of batiked eggs or "Pysanky" in order to make my Ukrainian grandmother a very special 80th birthday present and have been in love with the artform ever since. My artistic background and my desire to preserve my Ukrainian heritage lead me to creating eggs that are unique yet remaining as classic and timeless as I can make them, and while I incorporate traditional elements, I make sure the overall egg designs are one of a kind. Pysanky are a traditional Ukrainian craft and are made using a wax and dye method similiar to batik.

All of my batiked eggs are done with as little environmental impact as possible. Dyes are always made in as small of an amount as possible are used over and over for far more than a year until they no longer work then brought to a proper disposal facility. All packaging materials are re-used, re-usable or recyclable. I use no harsh chemicals to etch my eggs, only natural vinegars.
