This is absolutely gorgeous. Antique Tea Caddy has a fantastic sarcophagus style top with a pyramid shaped lid as shown.Regency style as shown. The fitted interior is completely intact including what feels to be the original bone finial handles on the lids and round fitted clear glass mixing jar in the center. The glass mixing jar/bowl does have some very small flea bites to the bottom edges and a tiny chip. I am flabbergasted that the glass lip is in impressive condition with only the faintest amount of wear. There are no cracks to the glass, it is beautiful.
The wood on this has a true aged patina that only time can naturally give. Darkened areas to the exterior, some bumps and dings as expected over so many years. The interior is in remarkable condition, again showing actual signs of wear and use. The bottom has a reddened color as seen and the interior back has a red color small area as well. This looks to have been hand made. Just breathtaking to have the opportunity to see such a fine piece of work.
Brass key hole cover and the lock mechanism look to be in tact. This tea caddy has the key included which is a rare treat - this is the key that was in the corner of the bottom interior. I have not forced the key to work and due to the age /desirability of this item will leave such to the new owner. It is a 50/50 that the key is for this. I wish I could be 100% but I am not qualified to make such a assumption and I will not force this. The hinges on this look to be original and are in good working order, opens and closes correctly. One corner of the top molding looks like it 'may' have been reattached at some point, this I am not sure but do want to be as thorough as humanly possible. The box sits on a flat surface with a green felt that was most likely added years later. Naturally this is going to show some wear, as most would hope to see some on a item with age - this does.

This lovely tea caddy has very nice quality and workmanship. Being hand crafted by what was most likely one of several of the finest furniture makers to produce such a beautiful item that has lasted over all these years, each one of which is reflected in the cabinet makers prized work as seen here. This is very solid built, stunning and a in remarkable condition.

This Measures approx. 12 1/8" length x 6" tall (from side bottom to side edge) x 6 1/4" wide.
This is most likely of walnut as seen. (as a guesstimate only)

If you are looking at this item you most likely already know: During the 19th Century the high cost of tea assured the highly desired tea caddy, being a item of status and of luxury. The tea caddy was a item that was necessitated as a secure place for the storage and security for a item, so be it as simple as tea - that was cost prohibitive during the times.

Obviously this has been pre owned/used and is an Estate sale purchase.
