A souvenir scarf to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Made from a lightweight off white rayon crepe, with a print of the Queen in uniform on horseback, surrounded by a circular bunting of flags, images of the royal palaces and other symbols of the monarchy. All of this is enclosed by a circular ribbon banner giving the date of the royal event, and each corner has a grouping of flowers to represent England, Ireland, Scorland and Wales.

The scarf is in good condition, but it does have some wear: a small hole near one edge, and a couple of marks. There is a very fine weaing flaw to one of the corners. It also looks as though there is a bit of bleed to the red ink, but this is very faint.

I haven't seen this particular design before and I think that is is relatively rare! This would make a superb display piece or could be used in a sewing craft project.

Measures 27" by 29". Selvedge on two sides and top and bottom look to be hand rolled and stiched. Deep red, pale blue and a pale buttery yellow, with deep brown linework.
