This commemorative lamp was manufactured as a memorial for Will Rogers and Wiley Post who were loved throughout America. They died in a plane crash near Point Barrow, Alaska in 1935. During the early 1900's, Will Rogers was known as an American cowboy, vaudeville performer, humorist, social commentator and motion picture actor. He was one of the world's best-known celebrities curing the 1920's and 1930's. Wiley Post was the first aviator to successfully complete a flight around the world. He won fame in 1931 when he and Harold Gatty flew around the northern part of the earth in 8 days 15 hr 51 min. In 1933 he made a second flight alone and completed it in an even a shorter time.

The raised relief figural lamp is cast metal with a globe base that shows images of both men and the ill-fated plane that they crashed. The metal surface shows some age. It has scattered overall verdigris. There is a spot on the bottom front that I'm not sure what it would be. It feels rough and is a whitish-grey color. I'm not sure if it is even possible to get it off but I decided to leave that up to the new owner whether you wanted to try to polish that or leave it as is. There is wear to the higher spots on the globe lamp base and you can see grey metal showing through the bronze coating.

Originally this lamp had an additional fitting on the top to hold a light green frosted globe. The lamp has been rewired at some point fairly recent and the cord and plug look good but the socket is older and probably original. The lamp seems to work fine but I noticed that whoever rewired the lamp used the original cord from the socket and connected the new wire to it using electrical tape so you'll probably want to either cap it or rewire right to the socket before using regularly. The Gibraltar Electric Clock Company of Jersey City, NJ, made this lamp from what I've read but it is unmarked. This company made novelty lamp bases and clock cases and considered them to be works of art. The lamp is 12 in. high including the socket and the base's diameter measures 5 3/4 in.

I do combine shipping if more than one item is purchased. I don't have a set rate and figure the cost by actual weight of package to your location plus a small handling charge. The shipping/handling cost listed is calculated at the highest amt. from NY to CA. If you live closer to the east coast-it will be less and I can either send a revised invoice or refund the difference. OR send me your zipcode for an exact shipping quote.

New York residents must add 8% tax on purchase price.
