Newbery Honor author Lloyd Alexander took the inspiration for his tales of Prydain from stories of King Arthur and the Welsh Mabinogion, and like those timeless tales, Alexander's shine with wit, adventure and fun.
King Fflewddur Fflam ruled a tiny kingdom in Prydain, a happy place with little work to do but have fun. Bored, the king decides to become a minstrel, and he is given a spcial harp by a bard. Unbeknownst to him, it is a truthful harp, one that breaks a string every time the king embroiders the truth to suit his fancy. After adventures with cold, a river, and bandits, the king realizes the value of truth and the silliness of his exaggeration.
caldecott Winner Evaline Ness' illustrations add a delightful touch to this funny and wholly worthwhile tale.
This copy is ex-library in very nice vintage condition. The pages are very clean and tightly bound, and the spine is strong.
