Carved Ivory pendant jewelry made from ancient Fossilized Walrus Ivory, surrounded by four eagle totems.

Ancient Fossilized Walrus Ivory has been in the ground for 200 to 35,000 years, and was found under the glacier melt of the Behring Strait between Alaska and Russia. This area is no longer available as a resource for fossilzed walrus ivory as it has now been completely flooded by the glacial melt.

I believe this beautiful piece is of a warrior prince or princess, surrounded by their totem the eagle, There is one guardian eagle over the warriors crown, and three surrounding the throat and heart area.

What I can tell you is that the face is stunningly beautiful, hair is carved into the side of the head, and feathers from the eagles surround this beautiful carving. There are four totem eagles, a proud strong well-defined one on top of this persons head, and three smaller ones wrapped around the heart and body to protect the wearer.

Eagles have great significance to many cultures, a few of which include:
- In Egyptian hieroglyphics the Eagle symbolized the soul, the spirit, and the warmth of life.
- Early Christian mysticism considered the Eagle as a symbol of the resurrection.
- Pueblo Indians considered the Eagle a symbol of greater sight and perception.
- Native Americans considered Eagles messengers from heaven and the embodiment of the spirit of the sun.

Each is a special one-of-a-kind piece. The color is determined by the fossilization in progress. The minerals from the surrounding earth replace the molecules, eventually changing the ivory to stone and the resultant color. This piece is stunning to see in person; the details are quite dynamic.

Pendant is made of Fossilized Walrus Ivory, wire wrapped in fine Argentium Sterling wire. Measures 3.5" from top of pendant to bottom, and 7/8" wide. Pendant could be worn on a short chain or beads close to the neck or a longer chain and still be stunning.
