A set of vintage trousseau linen guest towels with hand embroidered, high relief "W" monogram, and decorative borders. These towels are exquisitely stylized with a definite Nouveau influence. The lovely tiny stitches of the design and monogram are the work of a professional embroiderer or a very skilled seamstress.

An enduring symbol of the trousseau was the monogramed initials of a young married couple. Throughout the nineteenth century and , to a lesser extent, right into the 1950's, every item of household linen received this carefully embroidered seal. The habit disappeared with the decline of trousseau, the appearance of fabrics more fragile than linen, and notions of fashion that have dramatically shortened the life span of linen items, rendering costly embroidery pointless.
