This auction is for a lovely VICTORIAN Mourning Locket with 9CT GOLD FRONT AND BACK WITH BLACK ENAMEL INLAY and hand etching on back and front. Original glass intact inside where photo or hair would have been kept. This very collectible piece is in good antique condition. In Victorian times, jewelry forms had heightened symbolism. The buckle was a common symbol and was found on many different items and became popular in the 19th century. Similar to the serpent, it symbolized eternity, loyalty, fidelity, protection, and strength in an ever circling loop. 9 Ct front and back with gilded metal shell. Civil War Era.
