Whenever I see the queen inside a hive, she is always walking elegantly across the frames. She isn't pompous nor does not rule her kingdom with an iron fist. This queen, rather, is quite busy. She has a very important task at hand - one that determines whether the hive will live or die. In the height of summer the queen lays 1,000 to 2,000 eggs each day and her daughters take care of her every need - feeding her, cleaning her, and making sure she is healthy. Each bee has a job to do and they gladly do it. Never complaining. Never slacking off. Life in the hive is a beautiful thing, indeed!

What is Encaustic?
Encaustic is an ancient technique where beeswax and damar resin are melted together to create a medium that can be used in a variety of ways. Layers of encaustic medium are painted on sturdy substrate, usually wood, and each layer is fused together with heat. Encaustic gives an ethereal feel and has a beautiful luminosity.

Will it melt?
Beeswax has a melting point of around 160 degrees so it's not necessary to keep it in a cool room, however, it's recommended to keep it away from heat sources such as fireplaces and heaters.
