This old relic, antique glass fishing float, is one that makes the heart melt, especially if you are a lover of blue. This is one of those nearly all over 'frosted' or sand-blasted floats. It is said only one in 300 is all over frosted. I say "nearly" as there is a small area on onside of the float that happens to show a slightly lighter frosting, which I welcome as it allows one to gaze inward to the interior 'universe' of the old gem. The difference is ever so slight, yet also reveals at a glance, the enormity of bubbling and movement in the piece.

There are bubbles of all sizes and types which are a joy to study 'in person' with the float in hand. And there is even a wonderful 'stretched burst surface' bubble - which I refer to as a 'comet'. Of course the stretched burst, elongated bubble (which is a surface bubble that pops) is fully intact with the float completely water tight. This lovely comet, a full 1-3/16" in length, can be partially seen, lower right of the float in photo #1. Always view a 'comet' as an opportunity to make a wish!

Blue Pearl measures 3-1/2" diameter or 10-9/16" in circumference. The thick, high quality antique glass shows normal surface wear, evidencing its decades of service and journey at sea and what a miracle it has endured to glow and uplift our spirits!

You may notice the beautiful purple-royal blue 'rings' or part-swirls on Blue Pearl, especially in photo #3, where the lighting and angle was just enough to pick up this marvelous feature. I count about four such layers or part-swirls on top (technically the 'bottom' where the blowing began, yet the 'top' as the float ordinarily sits) of the float, likely due to some deep blue bit of glass which had not yet completely melted into the whole when the float was blown. This creates a gorgeous effect! Collectors always wish for more unmelted glass! The purple-blue effect may be detected from other angles too, such as the upper far left in photo #2 and hints of extra color in photo #4.

Please note the unusual olive sage green bubbly float, called 'Mediterranean Dream', seen in photo #3 with Blue Pearl is not part of this sale. The two appear together for fun, more of an experiment in pairing colors we perhaps would not always think of putting together. Mediterranean Dream is built like lead, actually heavier (!) than Blue Pearl. You may see more of it in the following link, if you wish:

The seal 'button' is a bit of a rainbow and pleasant surprise! It shows beautiful aqua turquoise overtones or hues and will light up like a rainbow for you, as you play with the angle and lighting. The float is so old a bit of dust from sand-blasting appears to be imbedded into the porous surface. Welcome this as authentication of a true artifact! Study photo #1 close up, if you like.

The seal is quite thick and somewhat oval in shape. It shows excellent placement. The surround edge is in surprisingly terrific shape with exception of a gazed portion to part of one end. Negligible, in my opinion. The sheer exposure to the elements and the beating the seals take, it's a wonder and a gift to receive them in such good condition. Notice the mark which has to be an Arabic numeral '1'. It is a clear strike and if there was a base bar, it disappeared with the edge. Arabic numerals were commonly used, some being more uncommon. Over all, only about 20% of floats received marks to their seals. If you know someone who's 'Number 1' in your life, Blue Pearl might make a unique gift. (And that "Number 1' might just be you!)

Thank you for helping to care for vintage fishing floats which are rapidly being replaced with plastic or synthetic floats.

SHIPPING: Happy to offer Priority shipping for this float. It will be DOUBLE boxed with extra insulation for maximal protection of its antiquity while in transit. The cost is $11.00. This includes your tracking number and insurance. It will be packed with absolute care. *** Please allow 1 to 3 days to ship and 2 to 3 days for the carrier. You should receive it in a week or less. If you need it quicker, tell me and I’ll ship it fast! ***

COMBINED SHIPPING: Yes - I will combine! Floats of generally similar size & weight can be combined so you save on shipping. These decisions are made at the actual time of packing, using my best judgment to keep items safe from damage in transit, protecting them maximally. Best option is to pay the shipping on each item up front. A shipping refund will be issued promptly via Paypal when your parcels are complete. My customers will confirm I am happy to do this. If this doesn’t work for you, convo for a ‘guesstimate’ on combined shipping of items.

CANADA: USPS has omitted insurance from the economy (1st Class International) shipping category. Priority International is the next best available method yet not cost effective in my opinion, unless purchasing two or three items & combining shipping. Please convo for a quote if interested. My sincere apologies!
