Unbelievably beautiful! Vintage Elsa Schiaparelli necklace and clip on earring set from the (I am guessing) 1950's. A swirled leaf pattern in gold tone open work metal with faux pearls and rhinestones. All three pieces are signed in script. In excellent vintage condition. Elsa Schiaparelli was born in Rome in 1890 and started her jewelry business in Paris during the early 1930's. Her empire was not only jewelry but clothing and perfume. Her vintage jewelry is highly collectible. A famous rival was Coco Chanel.

She used high quality materials and imaginative shapes. A woman with true vision. She collaborated with many artists in her time and was considered truly original.

There is an exhibition that opened on May 10, 2012 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York that celebrates her work along with Miuccia Prada's. It highlights how the past and the present designers' works mesh and compliment each other.

The necklace with chain and clasp is approximately 22', the earrings are 1 1/2" by 1 1/4"

A work of art!

It reminded my daughter of a brooch worn by a character (a little boy) in "Moonrise Kingdom".

Thank you for visiting my vintage shop.
