Spine Length: 4.64 inches (11.8 cm)
Cover Width: 4.64 inches (11.8 cm)
Thickness: 1.69 inches (4.3 cm)

Materials:
Bookboard.
Specialty paper - textured dark grey / black with flecks of metal.
Various upcycled paper
--- graph, tracing, drawing, watercolor, 70 lb text white, and 100 lb text off-white.
Black linen bookbinding thread.

This winter I intercepted some paper en route to the recycling center and wanted to give it new life. So, I chose some specialty paper a friend gave me and set to work. I cut and covered the bookboard, using the same paper to wrap each signature. The page paper can support a variety of media - pencil, ink, light applications of watercolor or glue. I stitched in tracing paper as well, so the artist can make notes over drawings. Sturdy black linen binding thread, was used for the Coptic stitch that binds this fantastic little book together allowing it to lay flat for easy writing, drawing, and painting.

Frequently asked questions about AmyLBurns

I love making custom hand-bound books! They make wonderful gifts, and most books are perfect to use as guest books, scrapbooks, sketchbooks, and journals. Customize the cover art, cover paper, page paper, or even provide your own vintage cover.

Turn around time for custom work is between 1 and 3 weeks, plus shipping time.
Most items are mailed wrapped in kraft paper, tied with raffia, ribbon, or hemp, with a gift tag. If you require something more, please let me know and I'll work with you to make it happen.
All items are one of a kind and made in a smoke-free / pet-free home with my own two hands, right here in the Green Mountains of Vermont.

The one exception are greeting cards and postcards which are reproductions of my original work, and are printed by me in my studio.
What kind of pen should I use for my book?

The weight and light tooth of the page paper makes it suitable for pencil and ink. Sharpies are discouraged - these seep through paper rather easily, and their acidic chemicals will do unattractive things to your pages over time, shortening their life.

A regular ballpoint pen is okay in a pinch, however I recommend an archival / ph neutral pen (Micron or Faber-Castell are two great and readily available brands). The inks in these pens are meant to last, and they write softly and do not create indents in the pages like ballpoint. You can find many color choices at your local crafts or art supply store, or online if you have time to order.

For black pages, I recommend gel pens or white charcoal.
To arrive on time for 2016 Christmas holidays, your Ready To Ship order must be placed by December 19th (USA) or December 1 (International). For custom work, your order must be placed by December 10th (USA), or November 21 (International).
