Description

Antique industrial wooden spools (a.k.a. textile bobbins, quills, spindles) from an old textile mill, sold in a set of 6. Use for rustic decor, primitive crafts, an organizer for laces and trims, photo props, ring displays. In any event, these quills are something to re-use, not toss. As always, I quickly refund any shipping over-payments without being asked. Haven't had one complaint yet!

Wooden textile mill spindles or quills are bits of textile's industrial era history that you can hold in your hand today. They were made to last decades of heavy use. Victorian textile mills developed wooden bobbins, quills and spools to organize the threads on their looms, completely transforming the way textiles were produced during the industrial revolution. Colors (occasionally spotted here and there, most now faded) of the quills designated where they 'worked' in the mill.

height: 7 to 9 inches tall
width: 1 inch at wire-wrapped base
details: Some have metal flashing around the shaft, some are more heavily glazed than others and shades vary from dark to blonde. There is a hole pinky-tip wide at the large metal-wrapped end and some have a small hole at the narrow end.

Indigotwinholiday.Etsy.com uses these as a base for her primitive folk-art holiday sculptures. How fun!
