From my Washington Trade Bead collection this is a strand of four hollow blown ball beads.

Each bead is about 26mm in diameter.

Washington Trade Beads are one of fifty-five state and territory named design groups being developed for the American Trade Bead Permanent Collection, an encyclopedic like study of glass beadmaking technique slated for completion in July of 2035.

Still in the early stages of prototyping and development, Washington Trade Beads study an organic, surface color version of contemporary line work. The item above was made from a preform with multiple concentric layers of colored glass lines. After the flameworking was completed, the item was then cold carved to taper-reveal this patten and then the surface was sandblasted and oiled to give it a pleasingly tactile, natural satin finish. This design group will remain in development through 2012.
