Egyptian Necklace with Ankh and Scarabs, Long Copper Gemstone Necklace with Turquoise, Lapis, Carnelian Boho Jewelry - Key of Life

Key of Life is an earthy, bohemian, Egyptian style necklace lovingly handcrafted by me with gemstones and copper wire. I used genuine turquoise, lapis lazuli, and carnelian, all of which were commonly used gemstones in ancient Egyptian jewelry. I also incorporated gemstone scarabs carved out of beautiful picture jasper. I hand wrapped each gemstone with copper wire and linked them together forming a long and colorful rosary-style gem chain. This necklace is full of Egyptian symbolism and would be a wonderful gift to be worn as an amulet or talisman by someone enthralled by ancient Egyptian culture.

The pendant is a large Ankh, or Key of Life, the Egyptian symbol of life and immortality. I hand forged the frame of the Ankh out of thick copper wire, and then meticulously hand wrapped the entire frame with thinner copper wire to form this beautiful piece. At the center of the Ankh is a gemstone scarab, symbolizing rebirth and renewal, and dangling from the bottom of the Ankh are 3 turquoise teardrops. The Ankh is suspended from a curvy, serpent-like copper shape that is wire wrapped with carnelian round beads. This shape represents the hooded head of the cobra, a powerful symbol of protection against enemies. The cobra, or Uraeus, was worn on the crown or headdress of Egyptian royalty, who believed that the cobra would spit fire at approaching enemies. The pendant is 3.5 inches long from top of carnelian snake head to bottom of turquoise dangles.

This necklace is very long, at approx. 33 inches, and can either be worn long or wrapped twice around the neck for a shorter double-strand necklace with the clasp showing in front (as shown in 4th picture). The clasp is a large hook-style clasp that I forged out of thick copper wire. On the top of the clasp is a wire wrapped scarab, and on the bottom, underneath the scarab, is an eye with a spiral in the middle, which I made to represent the Eye of Horus. The ancient Egyptian Eye of Horus is a symbol of protection, also conferring wisdom, health, and prosperity to the wearer.

This one-of-a-kind necklace was truly a labor of love. It took me many hours over several days to complete it. I'm not real sure that I want to part with it......it is one of my favorite creations to date! But I would love for it to go to a good home, to be appreciated as a beautiful work of art, to be cherished for its symbolism, and to be worn as a powerful personal talisman by someone who loves Egyptian culture and mythology as much as I do!

All of my handmade jewelry will arrive packaged in a lovely gift box tied up with a ribbon, ready for gift giving!
