Glossy charcoal gray "confetti" melamine butter dish is the first I've ever seen, making it both rare and mad cool. The dark gray/black color is speckled with light gray or white dots, looking a bit like vintage Formica. This piece is from Boonton's "Belle" line, and is in very nice vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or discoloration. There is some utensil wear on the butter plate (see photo 4), but the lid is shiny and pristine. The dish is marked "Made in Boonton N.J. U.S.A. 520."

If you are not familiar with "Boontonware," it's the Cadillac of mid-century melamine: crazy mod, heavy duty and originally designed for use by the U.S. military. Originally produced in Boonton, NJ, these melmac dishes rose to great popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, and are quite collectible today.

This listing is for the charcoal gray butter dish with lid *only.* Find matching serving dishes, dinnerware and other Boontonware here in my shop:
