A barometer is an instrument which is used to measure changes in air pressure. These changes are then used to predict the weather. There are three main type: Water, Mercury & Aneroid. This is an Aneroid Barometer. This type of barometer has a small, evacuated cell at its heart. As the air pressure changes, the cell expands or contracts. The overlaying mechanism, attached to a pointer, amplifies these small changes causing the pointer to move.

This one comes with a stand and two holes at the rear which allows it to be either desk or wall mounted.

It measures approximately 31 cm x 14 cm x 8 cm.

It's a very nice looking item and features two displays amidst a wrought iron surround with gold leaf and flower motifs. On display exhibits the air pressure whilst the other show the temperature.

It dates from around the early 1960's and was made in the UK by Shortland Brothers, a respected and traditional maker of barometers.

The round face has a satin silver background, measures approximately 10 cm in diameter and is covered in good quality glass. The glass has no chips and provides a clear view of the barometer's face. It is surrounded by a gilt bezel. This is in excellent order and free from tarnish. The markings are very clear and easily read. The pressure readings are given in both inches and millibars with bold, black, Old English style, capitalised fonts. It has a nicely styled, dark pointer with a second, movable pointer which allows you to easily monitor the changes in the air pressure. A nice feature is the cut out centre: this allows you to view some of the workings of the barometer.

It has been pressure tested and is guaranteed to work.

The thermometer has readings for both Fahrenheit and centigrade.

It comes complete with its original, 1960's box and directions for reading and setting the barometer. I have listed this as Used but it has never been used since it was purchased.

This is an excellent, quality barometer with great looks. I am sure you will love this in your home; alternatively, this would make a great gift.
