This is a striking large figurine with a great deal of presence.

It is a console-sized piece at approximately 11” tall. It is a beautiful, true fire engine red with an extravagant amount of air brushed gold gilt.

This style of figurine is often captured mid-dance. This figure is resting on his knees and is posed in a very stylized, theatrical way. It is the subtle position of the hands - with the fingers together and the palms facing forward - which give the figure a more formal feel, perhaps even royal or sacred.

The red paint of the figure is under the glaze. The hands and face are hand painted in cold paint. It has wool felt attached to its base which is original. (It was partially ripped away at some earlier time by someone looking for a manufacturer’s mark.)

The figurine has a great amount of in-mold detail. The headdress is very three-dimensional and the folds and drapes of the fabric are expertly captured. It is beautifully rendered.

This figurine is unmarked. It is most often credited to: Gilner , Yona , or California Originals. It was certainly made in California during the 1950s.

The figurine is approximately 11" tall, 8 7/8" wide and 5 3/8" deep. It is made of pottery or high quality ceramic. It is substantial and weighs nearly two and a half pounds.

The figurine is in mint or near mint condition. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. There is no apparent age-related crazing. The glaze is clean and shiny. There is little, if any wear to the gold gilt. The cold painted detail is in excellent condition with a small amount of wear. The left hand has the most loss (on the lower tips of the fingers).

It is a spectacular, quality piece.

It shines.
