I just loved reading “Black Beauty,” “The Black Stallion” and any other horse book I could get my hands on when I was a little girl. I've painted an image of Black Beauty with the distinctive star-shaped white blaze down his nose on this library card catalog card for Anna Sewell's book “Black Beauty.”

After permanently injuring her ankles when she was young, Anna relied on horses to get around and developed a great deal of empathy for these beautiful animals. “Black Beauty” was published in 1877 and helped convince many people to treat horses with more compassion. Anna died five months after the book was published. Although she lived long enough to see it become a best-seller, Anna could never have guessed that people would still be reading it 135 years later.

This hand-painted card ships within 1-3 days of receipt of order in a clear archival sleeve tucked into a protective cardboard photo mailer.

To see more of my hand-painted library cards, plus some inexpensive print options, visit the “Library Card Catalogue” section of my shop at http://www.etsy.com/shop/WingedWorld?section_id=11288915. I also sell mini easels so you can have an easy way to display your library card. Free shipping on second items from my shop.
