Short Story Long:
In almost every antique collector's home, you will find a Chinese rug like this. Made famous by the weaver and designer Walter Nichols, these open patterned, simple, Art-Deco rugs with Asian flair are generally referred to as Nichols Chinese rugs. They were made mostly from the 1920s to the 1940s, with breaks in between for economic depression and war.
This rug in particular is in good shape for its age. There are no holes or tears, and the original fringe and edges are still intact. The pile is a little low in a few places, but overall, it is very consistent. You can see some of the knot heads of the wefts (shown in some pictures), but this isn't a huge deal. You could cover those spots up with a nice, matching, permanent marker, but I never told you that. You'll come across these types of white spots in almost all older rugs, and they are what the industry refers to as "sar nakh," with 'sar' meaning head in farsi and 'nakh' meaning thread, so basically, "thread head." You learn something new every day, so now this rug is both a rug and a conversation piece.
