A cube of computational origins, each face precision engraved with the fractal recursion of randomly generated Invader symbols.

Sitting on your desk or in your home, your friends will be drawn to its cryptic purpose. You may even someday discover it.

The cube is made of solid maple hardwood. Variations in the grain run from blonde to ash, with grey highlights. These organic irregularities are transformed by the laser engraving process. Lighter wood burns to a medium orange, while heavier, denser areas become dark brown.

Cubes are hand sanded to a smooth finish. Edges and corners are left sharp. I take great care to remove all laser engraving residue. The wood is left raw. No chemical finishes of any kind are used.

The Invader is a simple lifeform. Each is one of 32,768 possible configurations in a 5x5 grid of black or white squares with bi-lateral reflection. While I’m unsure if it has already happened, eventually every single possible Invader will be generated and burned forever more into one of these cubes.

We see meaning in the symbols. Spaceships, creatures, flowers, bombs, and planes,
there are over 500 unique instances on every cube. Some have more than a thousand.

I wrote the computer program that generates these patterns (See www.complexification.net/gallery/machines/invaderfractal ). I am the sole operator in the studio and personally create each object, from material selection to lasers & smoke to fine finishing. I’ll even be packaging this order with my personal thanks.

This listing is for a single Invader Cube. The cubes pictured in this listing are examples of design and craftsmanship. The cube you receive will be one of a kind.
