This exquisite remnant of a Paragon tea service stands out as a set piece. It is a daisy as much as it is a saucer. When I first found this, the yellow and white and gilded edge, brought to mind 1950s colour schemes, but its daintiness and the garlands suggest Classical sensitivity and the lightness of being that the Edwardian era brought to design. The back stamp appears to be Paragon China's 1903 version but is of poor quality, so probably applied some time after that.

The saucer is wafer thin, with worn gilding at the outer edges. There are some tiny specks, where damage to the glaze has become discoloured. One of these is just visible at the top edge of the petal to the left of the second photo. On the back there is a manufacturing blemish.

I do have its companion tea plate, which is not such a perfect daisy, but is a nice addition to my pretty tea plate collection, which comes out for family cake occasions. I wouldn't normally break a set up but there is no cup, and the saucer really does stand alone for collectors of china... or daisies.

The saucer is 5 1/2 inches or 14.5cm across.

If anyone can date this more accurately or add any other information I would love to hear from
